An immersion into true Tasmanian Wilderness. 8days beginning at Melaleuca after a stunning 45m scenic flight from Hobart.
Our Port Davey Track guided walk is over 8days to Lake Pedder, crossing the Narrows of Bathurst Harbour and around the northern end of the magnificent Western Arthurs Range to Lake Pedder.
A route once used by aborigines and ship wrecked sailors, the Port Davey Track is a natural pathway from the west coast, winding its way through the valleys into the interior of Tasmania.
This is a full pack walk and guest are required to carry a share of the food. Expect some mud, river crossings and exposed sections and amazing vistas.

Our Itinerary
Day 1: After a morning gear check, we board our charter plane mid afternoon for a scenic flight across southern Tasmania to Melaleuca. We will spend the night at Melaleuca in walkers huts built by Den King. Here at Melaleuca we will visit the bird hides of the endangered Orange Bellied Parrot and take a short walk around the Needwonnee Track.
Day 2: Melaleuca to the Narrows 15km - The track rises and falls gently over low ridges towards the Bathurst Narrows. We will camp at Horseshoe Inlet this night. We also have the opportunity of a side trip to Mt Beattie for excellent views of Bathurst Harbour and time permitting we will walk down to to Claytons Corner.
Day 3: The Narrows to Spring River 15km - After rowing across the narrows in small dinghies, the track follows ridges and button-grass plains towards Spring River and numerous small creek crossings.
Day 4: Spring River to Watershed 16km - The track today sidles many hills and gullies and over the Lost World Plateau
Day 5: Watershed to Crossing River 10.6km - We contour north then east over the Crossing Plains over some zigzagging spurs and gentle gullies and across many gentle creeks.
Day 6: Crossing River to Junction Creek 10.5km - Today we walk along the Crossing Plains and sidle around the Northern end of the Western Arthur range and Mt Hesperus to our forested camp at Junction Creek.
Day 7: Junction Creek to Scotts Peak/Lake Pedder 8.4km - An easier 1/2 day hike to Scotts Peak Dam over open buttongrass plains and through shorter forested sections.
Day 8: Spare Day - [possible flight/weather delay]

Final payments are due 8 weeks before the departure date.

In our Vehicles – Free face-masks and hand sanitiser are available for all guests. Temperature checks will be conducted as guests enter the bus and the Check in App must be scanned. Masks will be carried on the tour and used if required. Group Sizes – Our maximum group size is 10 and on average the group size is 8. These small group sizes carry less inherent risk of COVID 19 Social Distancing – Our groups camps are well away from the general public campsites and we follow the recommended 1.5m distancing rule whist in camp and on the walk. Vaccinations – Currently most of the Leaders / Guides in our employ are fully vaccinated, or have had at least 1 jab. Sharing Tents – Our hikes are based on twin share. Should there be a high percentage of couples or family members that can share a twin tent on any given tour, we will supply a single person tent to the remaining independent travellers. Campsite sizes and single person tent availability may impact this offer. Self Isolating – We are able to receive COVID 19 updates / alerts via our satellite phones and local networks. If a guest on a tour has originated or visited a LGA of concern, and is required to isolate, we can accommodate that guest at a safe distance away from our camp. This guest will walk independently from the main group for the remainder of the tour, accompanied by a guide. Evacuation – Should a guest develop COVID 19 symptoms on tour, that guest will be evacuated via the nearest evacuation route by a guide, and then taken to the nearest hospital or testing clinic.
Our flight to Melaleuca does not depart until around 2pm. In the morning we will conduct a gear check at a local Outdoor shop in Hobart CBD. Following a casual lunch we will make our way to Cambridge Airport.

At you hotel in Hobart or we can store it for you.
Included in the tour price is: 2 x Mountain Guides, transfers to the start and from the finish of the tour back to your Hotel in Hobart, all food, emergency communication equipment and 1st aid kits, group gear [pots and pans, cutlery, bowls, stove fuel and stoves, flight into Melaleuca and National Park passes.
