Port Davey Track Guided Walk

Your tour starts with a flight to Melaleuca and the home of Deny King. What follows is a 7 day walk to the northern end of the Western Arthurs and Scotts Peak Dam.

Just like our South Coast Track Guided Walks, we also start this tour with a spectacular flight with Par Avion to Melaleuca in Tasmania’s South West.

Depending on the weather, our flight may track directly to Melaleuca via Federation Peak. Or it may follow the coast via Prion Beach and Cox’s Bight on a southerly approach.

The airstrip at Melaleuca, built by Deny King, is a feat of engineering combined with his determination.

On our 1st night in the Wild West we stay in a bushwalkers shelter in the design of a Nissen Hut also built by Deny.

Departing from Melaleuca our Tasmanian Hikes journey heads north sidling around the western slopes of Mount Beattie and across the Bathurst Narrows.

Whether depending we do a side trip to the summit of Mount Beattie and down the other side to Claytons Corner, the former home of Win and Clyde Clayton.

At the Bathurst Narrows it is a bit of a boat shuffle to get everyone across to the Northern side and our onward journey.

The following 5 days is a gradual undulating walk to the Northern end of the Western Arthurs Range.

We pass the impressive Mount Rugby and Mt King and then keep the impressive Western Arthurs on our right flank.

On our final 2 days, we round the northern end of the Western Arthurs to our camp at Junction Creek.

From here it is just a 4 hour walk out to Scotts Peak dam the next morning, followed by a scenic drive back to Hobart.
