Tasmanian Hikes Trip Preparation

Before you venture on a Tasmanian Hikes Guided Walk it is important that you prepare for that trip methodically. We have put together some points to consider that will determine the success of your holiday.

  1. Commit yourself to some Physical Training

We can control our physical training, but you need to have a training plan that is suited to the destination / terrain in which you will be hiking. Tasmania is notoriously hilly, so you will need to incorporate uphill training in your plan.

The best thing is to do some hill training in your local area wearing the backpack that you will be taking on your hike. Over time progressively add weight to the back until you have reached the recommended tour weight. Don’t try to do too much, too soon.

Out on the track take time to stretch and hydrate at the end of each day.

2. Choose / Source Your Gear

Equipping yourself with the correct equipment is essential. From the boots you wear to your wet weather and your pack.

The first things to consider purchasing are the items requiring breaking-in, for example your boots. Tasmanian Hikes recommends leather ankle high boots for the support that they give and their durability.

Next should be your pack [needed to train with] followed by wet weather gear, thermals and sleep systems.

Create a checklist so that you don’t forget anything and become familiar on how all of your gear functions.

If you book with Tasmanian Hikes, they hire out sleeping bags, air mats, backpacks and raincoats.

3. Travel & Insurances

Check the terms and conditions of your airline, such as cancelled or delayed flights and loss of luggage.

There maybe unforeseen circumstances that may impact your trip. By taking out insurance you are safeguarding your hard-earned investment.

Our Air Rescue services here in Tasmania are free for local residents and Tasmania does have reciprocal arrangements with some Australian States, but not all.

It is worth it to check this out before you leave home as accidents out on the track sometimes happen.
